Good evening and thank you for reading the Bored Ape Gazette’s 11th edition of the ApeCoin DAO-N Low.
This is the last Bored Ape Gazette newsletter of 2022 and I would like to start it by thanking all of you for an amazing year! This community has been a blessing in my life and I look forward to seeing what happens next in 2023 and beyond!
With that said, let’s ape into all things $Ape!
The ApeCoin DAO’s first election season is coming to an end after nearly eight weeks of campaigning and voting.
The election is currently in its third phase after the DAO selected Verathrape, Degentraland, Gerry, Herb, and BoredApeG to move on to the final round and become Special Council nominees last week.
During this week's vote, the $Ape community must decide which three Special Council nominees will serve on the board in January 2023 with Yat Siu and Alexis Ohanian.
Over the weekend, the Bored Ape Gazette sent three questions to each of the five candidates to find out more about them and what they see as the most important issues facing the DAO.
Take a look at the Gazette’s interview with each of the candidates below:
@Degentraland
1: Why should the $Ape community vote for you?
“I have extensive experience working in DAOs, NFTs, and tokenization. This coupled with my intimate knowledge of the community make me the ideal candidate. I’m a doer. And we don’t have time to waste.”
2: What are your thoughts on AIP 183 being rejected? As a Special Council Member What do you plan to do going forward?
“I’m glad the community took action. We need to focus on decentralizing the centralized points of failure in the ApeCoin ecosystem. Handling day-to-day operations is necessary (taxes, reporting, KYC, legal, etc.), but not at the expense of holders.”
3: If elected, what’s your top priority and what do you hope to accomplish?
“The goal is to turn ApeCoin from the engine of the Otherside to the token of the metaverse. This requires (i) fixing ApeCoin’s base layer infrastructure, (ii) investing in high growth metaverse initiatives (i.e. exploring new token sinks and use cases), and (iii) decentralizing operations over time.”
@NFTGerry
1: Why should the $Ape community vote for you?
“Why vote for me? Because I put in the work and I'm not looking for a second job. I have a proven track record of being there for our community when needed.”
2: What are your thoughts on AIP 183 being rejected? As a Special Council Member What do you plan to do going forward?
“I have been working closely with ApeComms, BadTeeth, Wabaam, the SC, Cartan, and others these past couple weeks to draft an AIP addressing two particular needs. First, we need to issue an RFP to select a new administrator going forward that has less operational scope. Second, we need to form workgroups within the organization to handle those operational duties as well as others such as communications. This AIP forms an interim 'Work Group 0' tasked specifically with developing the structure for the work groups going forward. Additionally I will make it my responsibility to communicate more clearly with the community what is happening in the DAO with infographics, videos, and and open, bilateral channel of communication.”
3: If elected, what’s your top priority and what do you hope to accomplish?
“My top priority is to make sure we have a smooth transition between Cartan and our future foundation administrator.
@BoredApeG
1: Why should the $Ape community vote for you?
“I am the best individual who can lead navigating us through our operational issues. APE Foundation/DAO is going to continue to lag behind Yuga’s needs if we cannot build out our operational infrastructure. Im here to do the unsexy work - this is the seat I am looking to fill. Yuga for regulatory reasons cannot help ApeCoin DAO - we need to address our issues if we want to be an effective partner with Yuga and others. Until then, we are holding back the potential of ApeCoin Here is my full post outlining our issues and why I’m the best to lead us:
2: What are your thoughts on AIP 183 being rejected? As a Special Council Member What do you plan to do going forward?
“I drafted the initial Transition Plan to respond to AIP-183 potentially failing, which kicked off rallying our community. AIP-183 failing validates that we as an ApeCoin community gave enough confidence to key stakeholders - that we are capable of further decentralization. From that initial plan, the community has answered the call and evolved to a new plan that involves an RFP process for a new administrator and further decentralization of APE Foundation work: https://forum.apecoin.com/t/bored-aip-bringing-order-and-reliability-via-ecosystem-decentralization/10160
“What will I do going forward? More of this! I may initiate plans, but I know I’m here to only facilitate. Our community is full of incredibly smart individuals. Everything I have done for the DAO so far has been through educated professional guessing. I will be so much more effective being privy to confidential information and understanding what are the best ways to work under the conditions of the Non-Disclosure Agreement which Special Council members are subject to.”
3: If elected, what’s your top priority and what do you hope to accomplish?
“The immediate priority is successfully navigating the potential replacement of Cartan (RFP in January 2023) and the further decentralization of the Administrator’s work. I expect that showing the strength of our Special Council team to work with the community, by finding success through this immediate priority, will set the tone for the rest of the year. It is my hope through this that we will collectively accomplish decentralizing all tasks that are reasonable to not be left with Cayman Island vendors.”
@Veratheape
1: Why should the $Ape community vote for you?
“The community should vote for me for two main reasons: I can offer perspectives from Asian communities with my deep understanding and experience of community building around the world. I will work to create a framework for successful DAOs by contributing lessons I learned from my participation in several DAOs.”
2: What are your thoughts on AIP 183 being rejected? As a Special Council Member What do you plan to do going forward?
“It is unfortunate that this happened, but I think it is something we would have had to go through at some point. ApeCoin DAO won’t be a DAO that stops running because it does not have Cartan. I would want to remove the single point of failure and have the community own the DAO if I get elected.”
3: If elected, what’s your top priority and what do you hope to accomplish?
“The first thing I want to push is to expand the ecosystem by hosting hackathons and establishing partnerships. Building the ecosystem is a long journey and it is the only way for a token to be sustainable. It took Ethereum 4 years to really build the ecosystem and I believe this goal is something that we should prioritize. There are transparency, DAO engagement, and rebranding issues I want to help solve but those can be solved along the way of building the ecosystem. •Another important thing to me is DAO structure change. To remove single point failure from the DAO and be able to have a structure like DAO 2.0
