ApeCoin DAO-N Low #13
To the Bored,
Good evening and thank you for reading the thirteenth edition of the Bored Ape Gazette’s ApeCoin DAO-N Low.
Things have been moving at the speed of $Ape lately around the swamp. The Special Council is in the process of selecting new a new Supervisor, Director, and Administrator; the newly formed Working Group Zero held its Steward election and is looking for more DAO Contributors to join its taskforce; $Ape holders are spending their tokens on the Bored Ape Yacht Club’s Doo-Key Dash skill-based mint; and there are three Ape Improvement Proposals on the ballot this week!
With so much happening around the DAO, let's ape in and get to the DAO-N Low!
In December 2022, the ApeCoin community voted against the Cartan Group’s proposal to renew its administrative contract with the DAO. Following this vote, the Apecoin Special Council was tasked with filling the DAO’s Director, Supervisor, and Administrator roles that were all previously handled by the Cartan Group.
Special Council Member BoredApeG gave the Gazette an update on the DAO’s search to fill these positions and said that the DAO is on track to finish this appointment process before the Cartan Group’s two-month extension expires on February 28th, 2023.
“There are effectively 3 roles we are replacing in the near-term: a) Director, b) Supervisor, and c) Administrator (who performs administrative tasks, but this could also be multiple vendors),” ApeCoin Special Council Member BoredApeG told the Gazette. “The APE Foundation, via the Special Council, will select the new providers to fill these roles via a Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Initial interviews for Director and Supervisor have been completed; we are on track to onboard new service providers for these roles by the end of the month. As for Administrator services, we have started interviewing potential providers, but that process will be completed in February.”
At the time of this newsletter’s publication, BoredApeG declined to give the Gazette any names or information about the possible Cartan Group replacements.
As the Special Council works to fill the Cartan Group’s previous roles at the ApeCoin DAO, the newly formed Working Group Zero finished up its Steward election last week and is now working to bring engaged DAO contributors and stakeholders together to find a path forward for the DAO.
On Wednesday, January 18th, the community elected Halina.Eth, HodlrCollective, Red Vulkan, and Badteeth to represent the community in Working Group Zero.
These four DAO Contributors will work alongside the three Special Council appointed Stewards (Adventurous Ape, Amplify, and Wabaam) to lead the newly formed Working Group Zero.
Over the next month and a half, Working Group Zero members will work to create and recommend possible post-Cartan Group transition plans to the Special Council. The Group will also oversee a Request for Proposal process to identify possible future APE Foundation administrators.
Working Group Zero is currently looking for more ApeCoin DAO Contributors to join the group’s Discord server and take part in the working group process. Anyone with at least one $Ape in their wallet is welcome to join. If you’re interested in being part Working Group Zero, you can join the group’s Discord here: https://discord.com/invite/wg0
As WG0 asks the $Ape community to join its Discord, many in the Yugaverse ecosystem are busy in the sewers playing Doo-Key Dash and spending their $Ape on in-game boosts and advantages.
The BAYC’s skill based mint dubbed the Doo-Key Dash started on January 19th and the community has already spent 109,712 $Ape or $593,541 USD on “PowerShart” packs, according to Etherscan data.
These Powershart packs include three different power ups, 1. Double Dash 2. Chart Topper 3. Gold Digger. These power ups give users a significant advantage in the game, thus giving users the chance at a better score and potentially, a better mint reveal.
The Doo-Key Dash is set to end on February 8th and users can spend their $Ape on power ups anytime between now and then. The Gazette will continue to follow how much $Ape gets spent in the sewers!
As the $Ape community is hyper focused on the Doo-Key Dash, the ApeCoin DAO is also voting on three different AIPs this week.
The first proposal on the ballot this week is AIP-124 titled “Thank APE: Decentralized, Automated Rewards for Valuable ApeCoin Contributions” by BAYC member and ThriveCoin CEO, ThriveGiraffe.
“The long-term success of ApeCoin depends on decentralization, automation and scale,” ThriveGiraffe wrote. “To do that, we must reward all community members helping get us there now! ApeCoin already rewards contributions - but only centralized functions, passed AIPs, and staking. There are many more ways our decentralized community can create value for ApeCoin - but we don’t yet have the infrastructure to scale and automate decentralized contributions. Thank APE provides that infrastructure.”
To make Thank Ape a reality, ThriveGiraffe is asking the DAO to allocate up to 242,000 $Ape. Of the 242,000 $Ape, 200,000 $Ape would be used to reward ApeCoin DAO members for their contributions to the DAO and the other 42,000 $Ape would be used to “offset some infrastructure costs," according to the proposal.
The second AIP on the ballot this week is AIP-151 titled “ApeCoin DAO Animated TV Series” by ApeCoin DAO Contributor HeffJobbs.
“This proposal presents the idea that NFTV Network produces an animated interview series to feature ApeCoin holders on a weekly basis,” HeffJobbs wrote.
In total, HeffJobbs and NFTV are asking the ApeCoin DAO to allocate 72,769 $Ape or $349,290 USD to create 24 2-3 minute “interview style episodes” over the next six months. Here is the cost breakdown below:
The final AIP on the ballot this week is AIP-168 titled “The Legend of ApeCoin: Atrium Casting Call,” by ApeCoin DAO Contributor Anaroth.
In AIP-168, Anaroth asked the ApeCoin DAO to allocate $200,000 USD to create the 12 one-minute-long animated shorts based on various community members IPs.
“This ‘Legend of ApeCoin’ proposal reflects ApeCoin’s value of boldness,” Anaroth wrote. “We know that storytelling is no easy task, and cinematic animation is incredibly difficult to produce. This, however, doesn’t mean that Hollywood-level production quality is unattainable. This proposal allows IP owners to build a story and universe around their desired character to share that story in the form of a beautifully crafted piece of animated content with the world.”
The window to vote on all of these proposals closes tomorrow night at 9 P.M. EST. $Ape holders can read each AIPs full proposal and cast their $Ape here:

The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow these three AIPs and will let you know how the community votes after the polls close tomorrow night.
Thank you so much for reading this week’s edition of the ApeCoin DAO-N Low and be sure to follow the Bored Ape Gazette on Twitter to stay up to date with all things $Ape!
