APECOIN DAO-N Low #14
To the Bored,
Good evening and thank you for reading the fourteenth edition of the Bored Ape Gazette’s Apecoin DAO-N Low.
Things have been rather $Ape-ish around the swamp recently as the Special Council prepares to give the community more information about the DAO’s new Director and Supervisor providers. Further, the newly formed Working Group Zero explained what it hopes to accomplish over the next few months, some DAO funded projects move forward on their ideas, another Ape Improvement Proposal is on the ballot this week, and Yuga Labs teased a new standalone experience powered by $Ape!
With so much happening around the DAO, lets $Ape In and get the DAO-n low!
After the ApeCoin community rejected the Cartan Group’s proposal to extend its administrative contract with the DAO in December 2022, the Special Council conducted its initial interviews to fill the Director and Supervisor roles that were previously held by the Cartan Group in January 2023. Following these interviews, Special Council member, BoredApeG previously told the Gazette that the Special Council will probably give the community an update on who the new Supervisor and Director will be by later this week. The Gazette will continue to follow these roles and will let you know who the Council chooses to fill the positions.
As the Special Council works to fill the Supervisor and Director roles, Working Group Zero continues to bring engaged DAO contributors and stakeholders together to find a path forward for the DAO.
Recently, Working Group Zero Steward, RedVulkan laid out five key things that he and the working group hope to accomplish before the taskforce dissolves later this year, including: proposing and approving budgets, determining which DAO functions don’t require a Cayman foundation administrator, run a transparent request for proposal process to elect the next DAO Administrator, propose changes to AIP-1, and propose future ApeCoin DAO working group guidelines.
Working Group Zero is still looking for more $Ape Holders to join its ranks and help shape the DAO going forward. Recently the group opened a Discord server that anyone with at least one $Ape in their wallet can access.
“There is a huge opportunity to help develop the structure, guidelines and objectives of the DAO,” Vulkan previously told the Gazette. “Joining the WG0 Discord is a great way to connect with the community and help work on these tasks.”
Anyone who would like to join Working Group Zero can do so here: https://discord.com/invite/wg0
As the Special Council and Working Group Zero work on the DAO’s structure, various ApeCoin DAO funded projects have been busy building out the ApeCoin ecosystem.
Last week, the ApeCoin DAO approved the creation of a physical Yuga Centric Magazine dubbed, Beyond the SWAMP, and the project is already looking for artists, writers, and advertisers to contribute to its first issue.
“Would love for everyone to give the new project profile a follow @beyondtheswamp1,” AllCityBAYC told the Gazette. “Where we have three Tweets up on the timeline for content creators, business owners and artists to all start getting involved. Really looking forward to seeing what starts popping up and reaching back out to everyone. This project is all about community, so the more people we can get involved, the better.”
While Beyond the SWAMP works to bring its idea to fruition, Catapult, a social media platform that’s geared towards Web3 users, is set to release its ApeCoin DAO pilot platform later this week.
“We already have a working product that we're getting feedback on and will launch our formal pilot by February 10th," Catapult told the Gazette on January 20th. “Our plan is to then have 4 weeks to test and optimize. After that point, we will start to open the product to members of ApeCoin DAO. Get ready to claim your handle!”
Finally, the third Apecoin DAO sponsored Meebits PropHouse contest began yesterday and a 5,000 $Ape grant is up for grabs.
Artists and builders who would like to participate in this PropHouse contest can submit their ideas here: https://prop.house/meebits/round-3
As many previously approved ApeCoin DAO proposals work on their projects, the ApeCoin DAO is currently voting on a new AIP that aims to make it easier for Apes to meme!
AIP-182 titled “The App to Create Visuals, Banners, Stickers, Memes & GIFs with your NFTs,” is an ecosystem fund allocation proposal written by Bored Ape Yacht Club member DoberDanny.
“The rationale behind this proposal is to provide the community with easy-to-use tools to create visual content with NFTs powered by ApeCoin,” DoberDanny wrote. “This is fully aligned with DAO principles to increase the utility of $ApeCoin and drive Web3 culture forward providing more social use-cases.”
In total, DoberDanny is asking the DAO to allocate $135,000 USD to the project.
The window to vote on AIP-182 closes tomorrow night at 9 P.M. EST. $Ape holders can cast their coins here:

Finally, outside the ApeCoin DAO, Yuga Labs announced a new standalone 2D experience that will be powered by ApeCoin later this year.
“After we return from Second Trip,” Yuga Labs tweeted from its Othersidemeta account. “Otherside: Legends of the Mara. A stand-alone 2D experience powered by @apecoin.”
At this time, we do not know anything about the Legends of the Mara other than it will take place after March 2023, based on Yuga Labs’ previous Otherside trip timeline announcement.
Thank you so much for reading this week’s edition of the ApeCoin DAO-N Low and be sure to follow the Bored Ape Gazette on Twitter to stay up to date with all things $Ape!
Sincerely,
Kyle
