APECOIN DAO-N Low #24
To the Bored,
Good evening and thanks for reading the 24th edition of the Bored Ape Gazette’s ApeCoin DAO-n Low newsletter.
It’s hard to believe, but in a little over 24 hours, the ApeCoin community will not only elect two new Special Council members to replace Yat Siu and Alexis Ohanaian on the DAO’s board but also elect its first two Stewards to the community’s newly formed Governance Working Group.
With so much news and information to get into about the election, $Ape in and get to the DAO-N Low!
Over the last month, ApeCoin DAO contributors have had the chance to meet every Special Council nominee and last week the community selected CapetainTrippy, ThreadGuy, KarmaPocket, Swickie, and Waabam to be its Special Council candidates and move on to the second round of $Ape office voting.
Since last week’s vote, the five candidates have been making waves around the swamp as they addressed the community on Twitter, Discord, and Discourse and made the case to show that they are the right $Ape for this job!
As the Bored Ape Gazette has previously reported, the role of a Special Council member is not explicitly defined, but outgoing Special Council member, Yat Siu, gave the community a good idea of the position and its responsibilities in a May 7th Twitter thread.
“The role of the Special Council is to act as stewards of @apecoin its purpose to serve the $Ape community with a mission to be the layer for community-led initiatives that drive culture forward into the #open #metaverse #web3, Siu tweeted. “The Special Council members role is that of a steward, we serve the community, we are not operators, there is no CEO, we are servants to the @apecoinDAO community.”
With Siu’s explanation of the role of a Special council member in mind, let's take a look at each of the five Special Council Candidates’ concluding statements from their ApeCoin DAO candidate Discourse pages on why they should be on the Special Council. Note, the candidates' statements will appear in the order in which the community voted for them last week.
Capetaintrippy
“I have the experience and voice to make a difference for the DAO and strongly believe I can make a bigger difference working from the inside out, rather than the outside in. I am a rational thinker that takes in info, asks questions, listens to others, and makes decisions. I believe this rational approach will be extremely valuable navigating the behind the scenes responsibilities of the position as well as the community facing aspects of the position. Thank you for your consideration and I would love to better serve the community from the seat of special council.”
ThreadGuy
“As the ApeCoin DAO seeks to unlock its full potential, I bring a skill set that is the catalyst for success. With my prowess as a Web3 host, community builder, and deep immersion in the culture, I possess the power to ignite attention, drive growth, and foster active participation. By hosting weekly Twitter Spaces, amplifying AIP discussions, and prioritizing brand recognition, I will be one of the driving forces that propels the ApeCoin DAO towards unprecedented achievements.”
KarmaPocket
“The special council need talents with intensive DAO knowledge and experience to serve in the position. My hands-on experience starting and building a DAO makes me a perfect candidate. My education background in political science and non-profit management is highly relevant. I plan to apply my successful startup experience in areas help to make the DAO a more effective organization that can actually create true value for all ApeCoin holders. As an early BAYC and ApeCoin holder, I understand the history and culture of the community. Having the opportunity serving in the special council is not just another job for me, I’m doing this out of passion. Yes, I’m ready to serve the ApeCoin community.”
Swickie
“Deeply believing in the empowering potential of blockchain and community, I’ve dedicated the last two years to fostering growth and innovation in organizations devoted to uplifting the web3 ecosystem and beginning my journey in the ApeCoin DAO. It is the natural next step in my continued service to the web3 community. I am keen to uphold the vision of the DAO and the duties of the Special Council to protect the community. My focus, within the boundaries of the Special Council, is to support the Working Groups as keys to education and impact such as DAO community expansion, advocating for broader adoption of the Ape token, and enhancing communication channels within as well as outside of the community. Envisioning my role in the ApeCoin Special Council, I aim to incorporate the same tenets that guided my previous initiatives: education, value creation, fostering authentic relationships, and harnessing the power of the platforms we develop to inspire and motivate others. Given the opportunity to serve on the Special Council, I will infuse this spirit of community-centric innovation into my service to the ApeCoin DAO and its members.”
Waabam
“I want to see ApeCoin reach its potential and become the coin of metaverse culture and blockchain gaming. In order to do this, we need leadership on Special Council that shares this ambition, that understands the DAO’s governance structure, that knows how to exercise professional discretion safely and effectively, and that knows when to push back on legal counsel to advocate for a better position for the ApeCoin community. There is currently no member of Special Council who is a lawyer, despite the significant legal and regulatory uncertainty that the DAO currently operates under, and despite the fact that the most important decisions Special Council makes are legal in nature. As the candidate who has spent the last 9 months actively building out the DAO’s governance structure, and the candidate who has spent years honing legal analysis skills and developing a breadth of legal knowledge, I am the best candidate to ensure that Special Council succeeds in serving the vision of the ApeCoin DAO community.”
Along with the Special Council race, the ApeCoin DAO is also electing two Stewards for its newly created Governance Working Group.
For those who are unfamiliar with what this role entails, a Working Group Steward’s job includes managing their Working Group Multisig, operational tasks, maintaining documents, organizing and approving initiatives, communicating with the Ape Foundation and DAO Secretary, approving budgets, executing their Working Group Charters, among other things, according to the DAO.
With that in mind, let’s review the five candidates’ concluding statements from their ApeCoin DAO candidate Discourse pages on why they should be elected for the Steward position.

“My day-to-day goals as a Governance Steward will remain locked onto improving efficiency on community forums and internal workflows, but the efforts put into fostering communication channels with our largest voters and delegations, combined with progressive growth strategies tailored specifically to the broader ApeCoin holder base is what will separate me. We need leadership, and it starts here.”

“I would like to be a Governance Steward to continue my work across the ecosystem. Ape Assembly and new initiatives give me the ability to create committees with small budgets, meaning I can amplify contributors who have ideas as it pertains to governance.
I am generally conservative, and willing to push back on ideas that may be radical or overreaching. I believe Governance should be small and non-invasive. I will encourage use of the AIP system and scrutinize changes that may have unforeseen consequences. Governance is almost never implemented well. I will ensure that the culture is represented.``

“Based on my experience and contributions in the blockchain community, I believe I am a strong nominee for this position. As an early adopter, I have actively engaged in cryptocurrencies and NFTs since 2016. In roles such as Head of Growth at Crypto Chicks and Co-founder of Ladies of BAYC, I have successfully organized events and built supportive networks for women in blockchain. Furthermore, my advocacy for the ApeCoin DAO demonstrated my commitment to decentralized governance. Through hosting Twitter Spaces discussions, I have facilitated meaningful conversations, educated community members, and promoted active participation in decision-making. With my project management skills, passion for blockchain, and dedication to inclusive governance, I am confident in my ability to contribute effectively to the success of the DAO.”

“I have experience spanning key areas - business software, gaming/content, and startup acceleration/mentorship - so I’ve experienced the needs and challenges of the space and the teams first-hand. Finally, I’m consistent, having pushed for web3 (decentralization and ownership) even as I watched nft bluechip founders pivot back to web2. I’m not afraid to state my opinion and have never compromised on integrity (no shilling, no paid promos, etc.) and these are the values I’d bring to the governance team. Let’s build!”

“DAO-First Mindset: I am a true team player, always willing to roll up my sleeves and tackle whatever challenges come our way. “Not my job” is not in my vocabulary, and I am always looking for ways to contribute to the success of the DAO. I am committed to putting the DAO’s interests first, and to do whatever it takes to help us achieve our goals. Institutional Knowledge: Having earned Discourse Trust Level 3, I have a deep understanding of the ApeCoin DAO’s infrastructure and a profound appreciation for the hard work that has gone into building it. I have been an active member of the community for 345 consecutive days and have built a broad understanding of our historical DNA. This puts me in an excellent position to collaborate with other team members, identify opportunities for improvement, and help drive the Governance Working Group forward. Strong Understanding of the AIP Process: I have helped countless new members find their way around Discourse for almost a year, have provided feedback on numerous AIPs, and assisted authors with their ideas and drafts. I have authored several AIPs myself and have experienced both the “thrill of victory” and the “agony of defeat” on Snapshot. As a result, I have a deep understanding of the AIP process and the critical role it plays in the DAO’s success. In addition to my commitment to the DAO’s success, I possess excellent written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex information clearly. I am patient, empathetic, and able to actively listen and provide constructive support. I am available full-time and have the flexibility to monitor the community and respond to issues as they arise, ensuring that I am always here to support the Team, the Admins, the Special Council, the Working Groups and the valued members of the DAO.”
The window to vote in the ApeCoin DAO’s current election season closes tomorrow night at 9 P.M. EST. The Bored Ape Gazette has been speaking with many of the candidates from the two races and will be publishing additional interviews with them tonight and tomorrow afternoon.
