Keeping Tabs On The Lab #11
To the Bored,
Good evening and thanks for reading the eleventh edition of the Bored Ape Gazetteās Keeping Tabs on The Lab.
We are in the middle of the holiday season so I would like to start this weekās newsletter by wishing the entire Yugaverse Happy Holidays!Ā Covering this community and its members has been a blessing for me and I look forward to reporting on all things Ape for years to come!
With that said, the holiday season around the swamp is anything but boring.
Just this week, the community got an update on the Trial of Jimmy the Monkey, found out about a major hire by Yuga Labs, and the community is casting their $Ape in two important votes at the ApeCoin DAO! With all of this going on, one thing is clear; the holiday season in the Yugaverse is definitely the most wonderful time of the year!
Without further ado, letās ape into the news and begin this weekās newsletter by covering some breaking news this evening, the Trial of Jimmy the Monkey.
The Bored Ape Yacht Club took to Twitter and released a six-part Twitter thread that announced a Trial of Jimmy the Monkey film that will be released tomorrow and a free interactive mint for BAYC and MAYC holders in late January.
āTomorrow, the trial of #JimmytheMonkey starts with a short film kicking off a new chapter in the lore of BAYC,ā the club tweeted this evening. āPieces of the narrative will be released along the way. Pay attention to the signs, details might be important down the line. Things come to a head in late January with a free, playable, interactive mint experience for BAYC and MAYC holders. Youāll be asked to test your skills (and your knowledge). Keep these mints close, donāt let them fall into the wrong hands. The trial is the prologue to a series of activations coming over the course of next year. Pro-tip: When it comes to the mint, Apes (BAYC or MAYC) who also hold a BAKC will be in tiers of their own. There will also be an optional $APE spend mechanic, for those looking to enhance their minting experience.ā
The BAYCās Trial of Jimmy The Monkey update today was the second big announcement that the swamp got this week.
On Mutant Monday, Yuga Labs announced that Activision Blizzardās former Chief Operating Officer, Daniel Alegre, will be joining the company as its new CEO in mid 2023.
āWhen it comes to the metaverse weāre competing with giants,ā Garga wrote in a press release on December 19th. āIn order to catapult Otherside and our other ambitious projects to new heights, weāve known for a long time we wanted to bring in someone with a proven track record of building at the highest possible level. Knowing this, Nicole, Wylie, and I have been on the hunt for the right candidate. Our search led us to Daniel Alegre who will become Yuga Labsā new CEO in the first half of 2023. Daniel is a seasoned, visionary executive who shares our passion for innovation and creativity.ā
After Yuga Labs announced that Alegre would be the companyās next CEO, the notable executive took to LinkedIn and explained why he aped into Web3.
āThe Web3 space allows an opportunity to reinvent how we think about ownership and utility of content globally,ā Alegre wrote. āThe implications are disruptive and at the same time empowering to creators and consumers across most forms of media. Yuga Labs ā home to Bored Ape Yacht Club, the Otherside metaverse, CryptoPunks, and other incredible projects ā has become a creative powerhouse with ongoing ambitions to be at the forefront of such innovation. I am extremely excited to lead the team to the next phase of growth.ā
Bringing in a new CEO isnāt the only major change happening around the swamp. The ApeCoin DAO is currently in the middle of its first Special Council election season and the community is voting to determine which five nominees will make it to the next round.
For the last month and a half, 42 $Ape holders have made their case to the community on why they should be on the Special Council.
At the time of this newsletterās publication, the top five vote-getting nominees are 1. Veratheape, 2. Degentraland, 3. Gerry, 4. BoredApeG, and 5. Lior.Eth
The window for community members to cast their $Ape in the first round of the Special Council voting closes tomorrow at 9 P.M. EST. The Bored Ape Gazette highly encourages all $Ape holders to vote and check out all the candidates!
While the ApeCoin DAO is in the process of replacing three Special Council members, the $Ape community is also voting on a proposal to extend the Cartan Groupās administrative contract with the ApeCoin DAO.
AIP-183 titled āCartanās Proven Track Record & Continued Commitment to Advancing the ApeCoin Ecosystem.ā In the proposal, the Cartan Group asks the community to extend the companyās contract with the DAO for 12 months and increase the DAOās monthly allocation to the Cartan Group from $150,000 to $250,000 +20,000 $Ape.
At the time of this newsletterās publication, this AIP is underwater with the ApeCoin community with 76.35% of voters casting their $Ape against the proposal.
The window to vote on AIP-183 closes tomorrow night at 9 P.M. EST. The Bored Ape Gazette is working to bring you continued coverage of this proposal and will let you know whatās next for the $Ape community! Check out the Cartan Groupās full proposal here:https://forum.apecoin.com/t/aip-183-cartan-s-proven-track-record-continued-commitment-to-advancing-the-apecoin-ecosystem/9827Ā
Thank you so much for reading this weekās edition of Keeping Tabs On The Lab and stay tuned for next weekās newsletter, āThe ApeCoin DAO-N LOW,ā where the Gazette will take a closer look at the ApeCoin DAO.Ā
