Keeping Tabs On The Lab #13
To the Bored,
Good evening and thank you for reading the thirteenth edition of the Bored Ape Gazetteâs Keeping Tabs on the Lab newsletter!Â
The âearly Bored Ape Yacht Club vibesâhave been high around the swamp with the start of the Trial of Jimmy the Monkey and the announcement of the Doo-Key Dash, the BAYCâs first interactive game based mint. Along with strong vibes around the club, ApeCoin DAO is swamped with another election and six Ape Improvement Proposals.
With so much happening around the Yugaverse, letâs ape into the news!
The BAYC took to Twitter and gave the community an update on the Doo-Key Dash this evening.Â
In a two-part Twitter thread, the club announced that the window for Apes to claim their Sewer Passes will be open by âend of day PSTâ and that the club has pushed the sewersâ opening date back by a day.
âHeads up Apes, we're on track to launch the Sewer Pass claim around end of day PST,â the BAYC tweeted this afternoon. âWeâve also heard your feedback on the time to claim a pass, so the Sewers will now open Thursday, 1/19 to ensure Apes worldwide will have at least 24 hours to claim their passes. We will tweet a 1-hour heads up before Dookey Dash goes live, to make sure everyone has their scuba gear ready to go. Dookey Dash and Sewer Pass claims will still close on 2/8 as planned. Questions about how claim works? Reach out to our official Discord.â
As Apes prepare to mint their Sewer passes tonight and tomorrow, let's quickly go over what we know so far about the Sewer Pass claim!
There are four different Sewer Pass tickets that Apes will be able to get based on what NFTs they hold.
Tier one is a Mutant Ape. Tier 2 is a Mutant Ape and a BAKC Dog. Tier 3 is a Bored Ape. Tier 4 is a Bored Ape and a BAKC Dog.
Going into tonight and tomorrowâs claim, the BAYC, and the clubâs Co-Founder Garga, has encouraged the community to set up âwarm walletsâ to safely mint their Sewer Passes.
âHeads up, Apes: you'll be able to use a warm wallet through http://warm.xyz or http://delegate.cash for next week's mint,â the BAYC tweeted on January 10th. âWe recommend setting up the wallet ahead of time. As always, be on guard for scams around an upcoming mint.â
âWarm lets you use your hot wallet as if it owned the assets in your cold wallet,â Warm.Xyz wrote on its website. "Comfortably interact with web3 apps without the fear of exposing your valuable assets. Simply connect with the wallet you want to be your cold wallet and link your hot wallet securely.â
Like Warm.Xyz, Delegate Cash is a âdecentralized registry to protect your assets,â according to the companyâs website. âKeep your vaulted NFTs safe. Claim airdrops, prove ownership, and more from your hot wallet,â the company wrote.
Following the BAYCâs post about warm wallets last week, Garga further explained that using a warm wallet is an important part of crypto security.
âA hardware wallet is incredibly important," Garga said. âBut the next step is delegating your cold wallet to a proxy so you can reduce the frequency of hooking up valuable cold wallets to websites.â
As Bored Apes prepare to dive head first into the sewers of the BAYC later this week, the ApeCoin DAO is selecting four âStewardsâ for Working Group Zero and is voting on six different AIPs!
After the ApeCoin DAO rejected the Cartan Groups AIP to extend its administrative contract in December 2022, the community voted in favor of AIP-196, titled âBringing Order and Reliability via Ecosystem Decentralization.â Part of this proposal was the creation of Working Group Zero.
The goal of WG0 is to bring engaged DAO contributors and stakeholders together to figure out a path forward for the DAO before the Cartan Groupâs administrative contract with the DAO expires on February 28th.
Over the next month and a half, Working Group Zero members will work to create and recommend possible post-Cartan Group transition plans to the Special Council. The Group will also oversee a Request for Proposal process to identify possible future APE Foundation administrators.
Currently, Working Group Zero members are voting to select four Stewards that will oversee the working group going forward.
In total, 18 Apecoin DAO contributors are running for the four community selected Steward positions. Take a look at the nominees and the current vote totals below:
The top four vote-getting ApeCoin DAO Contributors in this Steward election will join the three Special Council appointed Stewards (Adventurous Ape, Amplify, and Wabaam) as the DAOâs seven Stewards.Â
The Window to vote in the Working Group Zero Steward election closes tomorrow night at 9 P.M. EST. Community members who are eligible to vote can cast their ballots here: https://snapshot.org/#/wgzero.eth/proposal/0x09f294f5d4a2ec7d6478d77561f5c7745446e4f4c5499f7200ebb1a395bc55be
As Working Group Zero selects its leadership, the ApeCoin DAO at large is voting on six different AIPs this week.
The first AIP on the ballot this week is AIP-132: âKarma - Reputation system for ApeCoin governance contributorsâ by DAO Contributor Mmurthy.
In their proposal, Mmurty asked the ApeCoin DAO to allocate $10,000 USD so Karma, a platform that âtracks and analyzes governance contribution, can set up its system at the ApeCoin DAO.
The second AIP on the ballot this week is AIP-136 titled âApeCoin Community goes racing at Daytona International Speedway,â by Raceape.
âImagine cheering for the ApeCoin sponsored race car in a nationally televised race,â Raceape wrote. âI want to bring ApeCoin to the NASCAR racing community. This can be accomplished in February 2023 during the most visible week of racing â at the World Center of Racing, Daytona International Speedway. We will involve the ApeCoin community by holding a contest to custom design a fully digital ApeCoin vinyl wrap for the 200 mph race car! Thatâs right, the ApeCoin community will design the look of the race car!â
In total, Raceape is asking the DAO to allocate $165,000 USD to this proposal.Â
âThis includes: all transportation, testing and racing costs, digital vinyl wrap, fan base marketing outreach at the track, marketing personnel, giveaways, Pit Road Patio Suite for the ApeCoin community, ApeCoin display race car and operation costs,â Raceape wrote.
The third AIP on the ballot this week is AIP -155: âShould we fund an ongoing bug bounty program for all AIPâs that introduce security risk,â by BAYC member and Snag Solutions Founder Zheerwagen.
In this AIP, Zheerwagen proposed that the DAO allocate 1 million $Ape to an ongoing community-wide bug bounty program that would be managed by Solidity.Io and Immunefi.Â
âThe bug bounty program would allow us to incentivize a community of white hat hackers to find potentially costly bugs with the future AIPs,â Zheerwagen wrote. âAn ongoing program will allow us to address new vulnerabilities as they are discovered, ensuring APE holders are safe.
The bug bounty program will be funded as long as funds remain, and funds are only paid out when vulnerabilities that meaningfully reduce community risk are discovered and addressed.â
The fourth AIP on the ballot this week is AIP-161 titled, âA Reward Proposal for Staking Contract Gas Optimization Contribution.â
In this proposal, ApeCoin DAO contributor Codeislight asked the DAO to purchase them a Bored Ape after they optimized the DAOâs staking contracts gas and saved the community an estimated $934,000 USD in gas fees over the next three years.
The fifth proposal on the ballot this week is. AIP-140 titled, âIntegrate with Catapult to refine DAO Onboarding & Participation,â by BAYC member and Mutant Cartel Founder Lior.Eth.
Catapult is a social media platform geared towards Web3 users. The platform lets community members customize their profiles on its platform with various badges, wallets, etc. This way, DAO contributors will be able to find out more about one another and connect!
In total, Lior is asking the ApeCoin DAO to allocate 10,000 $Ape to Catapult so it can use the tokens as an incentive to onboard $Ape holders to the Catapult platform.
âWe are proposing that the first 5,000 members who go through this flow will each receive 2 APE,â Lior wrote. âCatapult will also provide other incentives at its own cost. This will include, for example, POAPs for early members â which the team intends to form part of future reward programs.â
The sixth and final AIP on the ballot this week at the ApeCoin DAO is AIP- 156 titled, âForever Apes // Upgrade #5 // Apes In the Wild, Global Street Art Initiative,â by BAYC member and Forever Apes founder 12Gauge.
In his proposal, 12Gauge asked the DAOto allocate 41000 $Ape to produce and document global street art around the world!
âWe will facilitate future art installations and a series of graffiti contests,â 12Gauge wrote. âOur community has changed lives through these murals, and we should be proud of these stories. We will document this campaign and artistâs stories through a series of mini-docs (think vice) and not let them get lost in the noise. Additionally, we will consolidate all new and existing street art on an Otherside inspired website. We believe this will grow ApeCoin brand awareness IRL as well as digital and traditional media. We will continue to positively impact emerging artists and give $APE holders a reason to explore a world of art they didnât know existed.â
The window to vote on these six AIPs closes tomorrow night at 9 P.M. EST. The Bored Ape Gazette highly encourages all $Ape holders to read each proposal and cast their $Ape! You can find out more about the proposals here: https://snapshot.org/#/apecoin.eth
