To the Bored,
Good evening and thank you for reading the fourteenth edition of the Bored Ape Gazetteâs Keeping Tabs on the Lab newsletter.Â
The past two weeks have been a mix of lows and highs around the Yugaverse. To begin, Bored Ape Yacht Club Co-Founder Gordon Goner AKA Wylie Aronow announced that he would be taking a leave of absence from the company he helped to create to focus on his health.Â
It was somber around the swamp this weekend as Goner took to Twitter and announced that he was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure.
âSome heavy news,â Goner tweeted. âA few days ago, I was told by my doctor I have congestive heart failure. Symptoms started last year out of the blue and I put off seeking help (like an idiot) so I could keep working. But after testing, my doctor called and asked me to radically change my life. Firstly: my symptoms are still mild. Stairs wind me. I canât play with my dog or exercise. I can go on walks, travel, and live a mostly normal life. But the condition is progressing pretty fast and that means I need to make some serious changes.â
One of these serious changes that Goner must make to get better is taking a leave of absence from Yuga Labs.
âWhatâs next,â Goner tweeted. âIâll stay on as a board member and strategic advisor. My confidence in Yugaâs future and @Cryptogargaâs leadership are unwavering. Daniel Alegre (@dalegre) soon joining only makes me more bullish. While I wonât be on the frontlines for a while, I'm incredibly excited for what the Yuga family has coming this year. Not a lot of people outside the space know the extent of what we as a community have done here. Iâm proud of everything weâve achieved and believe Yugaâs impact on web3 is just beginning. All love, Wylie.â
The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow Gonerâs health and will let you know when, and if, he chooses to share any more information. The Bored Ape Gazette wishes him well!Â
With that said, letâs ape into the lighter side of the news.Â
The BAYCâs Doo-Key Dash is in full swing and Sewer Pass holders have been busy dashing through the gutter underneath the club for the past 12 days!Â
So far, 21,187 Sewer Pass holders have Doo-Key Dashed over 5,6285,00. At the time of this newsletterâs publication, the top Doo-Key Dasher is professional Fortnite player and Youtuber Mongraal with a score of 864,396 PTS.
The Sewers underneath the swamp are set to close next week on February 8th. Doo-Key Dashers have until then to participate in the game and try for a high score. Following the sewerâs closure, the BAYC will host âThe Summoningâ event with Gary the Dog Prophet on February 15th. During this time, Doo-Key Dashersâ Sewer Passes will transform into something new based on how well they dashed!Â
âGaryâs been studying the box and comparing notes compiled from forgotten archives,â the BAYC wrote on its MDVMM website. âHe thinks conditions are right to perform a summoning ritual that will bring an incredible power source from another dimension into our world. Gary will be watching you in the sewer. On February 15th, eligible Sewer Passes can participate in the summoning. Your best score will determine what it reveals.â
Currently, there is still a lot we do not know about the summoning event on February 15th. However, it is extremely likely that the summoning event will tie into Gary the Dog Prophetâs mech robotic sketch dubbed, âThe Future,â that the BAYC shared on January 19th, according to a tweet by BAYC Co-Founder Garga.Â
âget in nerds we're going to summon something,â he tweeted in his quote tweet of Garyâs sketch.
As the Yugaverse continues to compete in the Sewers underneath the club, the ApeCoin DAO is voting on four Ape Improvement Proposals this week.
The first proposal on the ballot this week is AIP-102 titled âAdd Proposal Overviewâ by Working Group Zero Steward RedVulkan.
In AIP-102, Vulkan asked the DAO to add the same chart that it currently uses for its weekly AIP updates on Twitter to the DAOâs Discourse home page and make it interactive.
The second proposal on the ballot this week is AIP-169 titled âBeyond the SWAMP: Bimonthly ApeCoin & Yuga Labs Focused Magazine + NFT,â by BAYC member AllCityBAYC.
âBeyond the SWAMP aims to produce a vibrant, high-quality collectible bimonthly magazine claimed through the sale of accompanying NFTs displaying each issueâs cover artâsimilar to Punks comic but with varying rarity and added rewards,â AllCityBAYC wrote.
In total, AllCityBAYC is asking the ApeCoin DAO for a one-time grant of $52,500 USD to start the business and print the first issue of Beyond the SWAMP.
The third AIP on the ballot is AIP-187 titled âExpanding web3 Accessâ by BAYC member NFTxExplore.
âWe seek to increase equity and access at the local level, continue to build web3 skillsets, and enhance a creative and digital economy,â NFTxExplore wrote in AIP-187. âAdditionally, building on the success of our initial web3 Hackathon, we seek to replicate and scale the experience to 3 other locations in 2023 in order to promote web3 solutions to authentic problems and expand career pathways / opportunities. In particular, as web3 grows and more people âape intoâ the space, the ApeCoin DAO can lead the onboarding charge in historically underrepresented places.â
In total, NFTxExplore is asking the DAO to allocate $71,400 USD to this proposal so she can deepen and expand that initial engagement through â1) continued outreach to educators and students to build on the prior engagement in Moldova, 2) expand web3 learning experiences to independent media and local entrepreneurs in Moldova, and 3) to launch 3 additional Hackathons in 2023.â
The final AIP on the ballot this week is AIP-200 titled âAdd âAbstainâ option to Snapshot,â written by Working Group Zero Steward Amplify.
âAdding abstain to voting allows users to vote on every proposal regardless of how they feel about the proposal, Amplify wrote. âThis would also allow ApeCoin DAO delegates to maintain a high voter participation rate. Many delegates and voters will simply not vote if they wish to vote against a proposal. This weakens the data for # of voters and # of votes and makes our DAO look less active than it really is.â
The window to vote on these four AIPs closes tomorrow night at 9 P.M. EST. $Ape holders who are interested in casting their coins or finding out more about these proposals can do so here: https://snapshot.org/#/apecoin.eth
The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow these four AIPs and will let you know how the community votes after the polls close.
Thank you so much for reading this weekâs edition of Keeping Tabs On The Lab and be sure to follow the Bored Ape Gazette on Twitter to stay up to date with all things Yuga Labs!Â
