Keeping Tabs On The Lab #16
To the Bored,
Good evening and thanks for reading the sixteenth edition of the Bored Ape Gazetteâs Keeping Tabs on the Lab newsletter.
Things have been moving at the speed of Ape around the swamp recently; and, there are several things coming up next month that the entire Yugaverse needs to keep an eye on! Itâs safe to say that March will be anything but boring. But before we get into whatâs to come, let's ape into whatâs happened recently around the Yuga Labs ecosystem!Â
To begin, things have been pretty trippy lately as DooKey Dashers have been competing in the Bored Ape Yacht Clubâs DooKey Dash: Toad Mode event for the past six days.
In the clubâs second skill-based mint, Sewer Pass holders have made their way back into the gutter to lick some toads and try to win one of the 2,500 companion traits up for grabs!
âThe top 500 score runs from Toad Mode will receive a companion trait to their Power Source,â Yuga Labs previously wrote. â2000 additional companion traits will be awarded to the 2,000 players who collected the most Toad Points, without duplicating anyone who were top 500 overall. Everyone has a chance. Itâs not just about going far, itâs also about lickiâ we mean, picking up as many toads as you can.â
At this time we do not know much about these companion traits, but we do know that theyâre drawn to the power sources that Dashers won during the first round of the DooKey Dash Earlier this month.
âWhatever it is, whatever they are, they are drawn to the Power Source,â the BAYC tweeted on February 22nd.Â
If youâre interested in heading down into the sewers and trying to win a companion trait, then youâll need to act now. The BAYCâs DooKey Dash Toad Mode will end tomorrow, March 1st, at 1:30 P.M. EST.
Speaking of the DooKey Dash, the winner of the first round of the DooKey Dash, Mongraal, sold the Golden Key for 1,000 Eth or $1.6 million USD on Monday.
âI have agreed to sell the key for 1000 ETH to @AdamWeitsman,â Mongraal tweeted.â Super nice guy and thrilled the sale went through with him. A special thank you to @yugalabs for hosting an incredible competition. I look forward to competing in future events. Royalties will be paid in full. Big thank you to @trebooomin for helping with the whole process. The sale has been made on OS for 1000 ETH.â
As Mongraal made waves around the club with his major sale yesterday, Yuga Labs made waves as with its new Bitcoin based generative art project dubbed âTwelveFold.âÂ
"Twelvefold is a base 12 art system localized around a 12x12 grid, a visual allegory for the cartography of data on the Bitcoin blockchain, Yuga Labs Co-Founder Garga wrote. âThe collection includes highly-rendered 3D elements as well as hand-drawn features which serve as an homage to the ordinal inscriptions currently done by hand. All of these choices are a departure from whatâs expected from Yuga. But, you know. Fuck doing expected things.â
Yuga Labs will be auctioning off the entire 300-piece TwelveFold art collection later this week. The Bored Ape Gazette will let you know when the Yuga Labs releases more information. In the meantime, check out the first TwelveFold below.
Yuga Labsâ TwelveFold auction is just the first of many big things that are set to happen around the Yugaverse in March 2023. Letâs go through some of the biggest events that are set to take place.
First, the BAYC will be holding its Summoning event on March 8th. During this time, DooKey Dashers will finally find out what they earned during their time in the sewers!
âGary's been studying the box and comparing notes compiled from forgotten archives, the BAYC posted on its MDvMM website. âHe thinks conditions are right to perform a summoning ritual that will bring an incredible power source from another dimension into our world.â
While nothing about the Summoning event is explicitly confirmed, many in the community believe that Sewer Pass holders will be summoning the mecha apes that Gary the Dog Prophet drew after he licked a toad on January 19th, based on tweets from the clubâs Co-Founders.
âGet in nerds weâre going to summon something,â Garga tweeted on January 19th as he retweeted Garyâs drawing.
Along with the summoning event next week, Voyagers are getting ready to make their next trip to the Otherside sometime this month!
In December 2022, Othersidemeta shared a 65 second teaser trailer and announced that the community will be breaking on through to the Otherside again sometime in March 2023.
âThere will be new environments, new mechanics, and an even higher concurrency of users than what we all experienced in First Trip,â Yuga Labs wrote in December. âSecond Trip will be a huge step for Otherside and will be more gamified and high energy. The introduction of these new spaces and mechanics will make for a far richer experience and enable the space to open much more frequently. Customizable avatars will not be ready yet for Second Trip, but thereâs a fun solution for those who want to enter with an NFT. Stay tuned for details on that. Also, there might be flying. Just because.â
At this time, we do not know exactly when Voyagers will be making their way back to the Otherside. The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to monitor the Otherside and will keep you posted on the second trip.
Along with Yuga Labsâ big plans for March, Applied Primate Engineering, a community based project thatâs writing the lore behind several of the Mega Mutant Apes, is entering the next chapter of its storyline and community members will need to âpick a sideâ beginning tomorrow.
Applied Primate Engineering Keycard holders will need to choose between declaring loyalty to AppliedPrimate, or aligning with the Simian Path beginning tomorrow during the projects Allegiance Mint.
This choice will then kick off Applied Primate Engineeringâs âmulti-week faction-based gaming event,â dubbed the Mega Mutant Melee,; which begins on March 15th .
âThis is the culmination of a narrative arc that started in April 2022, but itâs the beginning of something much bigger for Applied Primate and Fragment as a company,â the projectâs founder PTM previously told the Gazette. âFinally, we can begin to introduce Megabots and the narrative and gaming universe that weâre building around them.â
Applied Primate Engineering isnât the only community-based project that has a busy month ahead. Jenkins the Valet and the Tally Labs team are currently allowing Writerâs Room NFT Holders to license their, or others, NFTs for Jenkins upcoming podcast series that will follow his journey through the metaverse as he searches for his dog GoodBoy.
Writerâs Room NFT holders have until March 17th to either license their NFTs for the podcast or make a deal with one of the 7,700 charterers on Jenkinsâ website.Â
Thank you so much for reading this weekâs edition of Keeping Tabs On The Lab and make sure you follow the Gazette on Twitter @BoredApeGazette for the latest news from the swamp!
Sincerely,
Kyle
