Keeping Tabs On The Lab #18
To the Bored,
Good evening and thanks for reading the eighteenth edition of the Bored Ape Gazette’s Keeping Tabs on The Lab newsletter.
March has been a month to remember around the swamp as Yuga Labs and its community made waves in the gaming and culture spheres! From the Second Trip and a newly announced mint to Apes at the Louvre and a deal with Gucci; it’s hard not to be excited about the future!
Without further ado, let's ape into the news!
Over the weekend, 7,200+ voyagers broke on through to the Otherside and experienced the Second Trip.
During the event, Yuga Labs separated Voyagers into four teams and had them compete against one another to collect blobs for giant Toads! Voyagers also visited New Tokyo and got the chance to explore a Bone environment Otherdeed.
The Second Trip ended on a cliffhanger after a BoneLand Dragon attacked and Voyagers were sucked back into the infinity space.
Following the Dragon attack, Curtis and Blue sent Voyagers a message that ended with several vessels flying over their heads.
"Wow look, Blue, a meteor shower," Curtis said in the video. "That looks beautiful. What? Oh, those are vessels? Here to save the day? Here to save me? Oh so many. It's beautiful."
Voyagers did not have to wait long after the Second Trip ended to find out more about these vessels.
Just two days after Voyagers returned home from the Otherside, Yuga Labs released new information on the Legends of the Mara Otherside experience and revealed that the game ties in with the Vessels that Voyagers saw at the end of the Second Trip.
“Introducing Legends of the Mara, a 2D experience with its own companion collection, “Yuga Labs tweeted from its OthersideMeta Twitter account today. “Claim your Vessel, discover its potential, and forge your path. Otherdeeds with a Koda will be able to decouple in advance of the game launch.”
The topline take away from Yuga Labs’ Legends of The Mara announcement yesterday was that every Otherdeed holder will be able to claim one Vessel for each Otherdeed they hold next month.
Each Vessel that Voyagers claim will either be a Hunting, Farming, or Enchanting Vessel.
Following the Vessels claim, these beings will undergo an incubation period and then they may reveal a Mara; a “nascent worker” that can perform only simple tasks on Voyagers Otherdeeds.
“Vessels can grow into apprentices known as Mara, and under the right conditions with the right catalyst, can evolve into more skilled Kodamara,” Yuga Labs tweeted from its OthersideMeta account. “Both are capable helpers in the fight to defend Otherside, though their powers are greatly constrained when compared to the ancient Koda.”
Yuga Lab’ Legends of the Mara game is set to begin in May 2023 and the Bored Ape Gazette will continue to keep you posted on it.
As Yuga Labs made a giant leap forward in the gaming industry, the company also made waves in the world of art and culture.
Last week, eight Bored Apes and two Mutant Apes were showcased at the Louvre in Paris, France.
The primates that were on display at the 230-year-old museum are each owned by some of the club’s most notable members such as Yat Siu, Snoop Dogg, Frédéric Arnault, Adidas’ Indigo Herz, Deepak Thapliyal, Bored Caviar, Timbaland, Lior.Eth, J1mmy.Eth, and Bicycle Playing cards.
“Partnering with Paris Blockchain Week to display notable Apes in the Louvre was a creative way to not only recognize BAYC’s outsized impact on culture, but also showcase how Apes have leveraged IP in exciting ways,” Yuga Labs’ Chief Creative Officer Michael Figge told the Gazette at the time. “It also drives forward the very important conversation of digital art getting the recognition it deserves.”
As Yuga Labs got Apes to the top of the art world last week, they also announced a multi-year partnership with one of the biggest names in fashion yesterday.
“In a place where worlds collide, we appear,” Yuga Labs tweeted from its Othersidemmeta account. “@gucci”
Following the announcement, Gucci took to Twitter and said that the luxury fashion house is looking forward to exploring the intersection of fashion and entertainment.
“Continuing to explore the Metaverse, the House comes together with @yugalabs,” Gucci tweeted.“Stay tuned as a new narrative takes shape, blurring the boundaries between the physical and digital.”
Thank you so much for reading this week’s edition of Keeping Tabs On The Lab and make sure you follow the Gazette on Twitter @BoredApeGazette for the latest news from the swamp!
