Keeping Tabs On The Lab #19
To the Bored,
Good evening and thanks for reading the nineteenth edition of the Bored Ape Gazette’s Keeping Tabs on The Lab newsletter!
What a time to be a part of the Yuga Labs ecosystem. Vibes are high and the entire community is looking forward to the beginning of the Legends of the Mara game after the Koda decoupling and Vessel claim launched last week. Further, Yuga Labs’ partner, Gucci, sold its first Otherside Relic last week, a CryptoPunk made her debut at a prestigious museum and the ApeCoin DAO is voting on two different Ape Improvement Proposals!
With so much happening around the swamp, lets ape into the latest news and keep tabs on all things Yuga Labs!
To begin, Yuga Labs kicked off its highly anticipated Vessel claim and Koda decoupling last Wednesday.
“Koda Decoupling & Vessel claim is now live at https://lotm.otherside.xyz/expanded,” Yuga Labs tweeted from its OthersideMeta account. “Only Otherdeeds with Koda can Decouple, but all Otherdeeds can claim a Vessel.”
During this Vessel claim, Voyagers will not only receive new Vessel NFTs but also, they will burn their current Otherdeed NFTs for a new dynamic NFT from Yuga Labs’ new collection dubbed “Otherdeed Expanded.”
“Otherdeed Expanded is your key to unlocking future gameplay experiences and activations, including Otherside: Legends of the Mara,” Yuga Labs wrote in a press release. “Otherside will be best experienced using dynamic NFTs that can change over time. The new smart contract will offer Voyagers who choose to burn their original Otherdeed NFT access to Yuga’s new gaming experiences and activations outside of Otherside (the game). Two key components of Legends of the Mara are the use of Otherside Koda NFTs and Otherside Vessel NFTs, which will be integral pieces to playing the game. Throughout the course of gameplay, there will be opportunities to earn new entitlements, upgrade existing entitlements, and evolve entitlements earned, which we’ll learn more about closer to the release date of Legends of the Mara.”
Note: your Otherdeeds will not change during this burn process. Yuga Labs is simply swapping your current Otherdeed for a dynamic NFT that can change and grow with the games.
At the time of this newsletter’s publication, 36,227 Vessels have been claimed which means 36,227 Otherdeeds have moved to the new Otherdeed Expanded contract.
The window for Voyagers to claim their Vessels and move their Otherdeed to the Otherdeed Expanded collection will be open indefinitely.
Speaking of the Koda decoupling and the Vessel claim, Gucci sold 3,019 KodaPendants to Otherside Voyagers last week, making 1,358,550 $Ape or $5,719,000 USD, according to Etherscan data.
Gucci’s KodaPendants were exclusively available to Vessel and Koda Holders for 24 hours last week.
Each KodaPendant came with an immediate metadata change to the NFT that buyers used to purchase the Otherside Relic.
Along with this Metadata change, Voyagers who purchased a KodaPendant will also receive cosmetic upgrades to their 3D characters in the Otherside later this year and they will be able to claim a physical KodaPendant this summer, according to Gucci.
As Voyagers collected their Gucci KodaPendants to break on through to the Otherside in style, CryptoPunk #110 broke on through into the Centre Pompidou’s permanent collection.
“Salut, Les Punks,” Yuga Labs tweeted from its CryptoPunks account on Thursday. “@CentrePompidou is debuting their newly acquired NFTs, including CryptoPunk #110 in an exhibition within their permanent collection galleries up now. Don't worry, the show will be up until December see you soon.”
CryptoPunk #110’s inclusion in the Centre Pompidou is part of Yuga Labs’ broader Punks Legacy Program that aims to place CryptoPunks in prestigious museums around the world!
“We’re honored to announce the Punks Legacy Project, an initiative by Yuga Labs to donate iconic CryptoPunks from our collection to museums around the world,” CryptoPunks Brand Lead Noah Davis wrote in November 2022. “Our team will oversee the donation and installation of several CryptoPunks to leading contemporary art museums around the globe, providing these museums with resources regarding security, NFT display best practices, and Web3 education.”
As Davis and the Yuga Labs work to showcase CryptoPunks around the world, the ApeCoin DAO is voting on two AIPs this week that aim expand the ApeCoin ecosystem via streaming and in real life events!
The first proposal on the ballot this week is AIP-222 titled “A Web3 Streaming Platform Powered By ApeCoin,” written by Non-Fungible Films’ founder and ApeCoin DAO contributor Cameron Moulene.
In AIP-222, Moulene explained that he and his team want to create a streaming platform like YouTube or Twitch where content creators retain their IP rights and earn more from ads. Further, Moulene’s proposed platform give viewers the option to either pay to watch content they want directly or they can watch an ad and get a piece of that advertisement revenue.
“The ApeCoin Community should implement the proposal to position $APE as the driving force behind a platform which improves the value proposition for streaming media for content creators and audiences alike by rewarding communities themselves with a share of the creator’s ad revenue and by increasing the creator revenue share to 65%,” Moulene wrote. “Allowing creators to become a platform for their network’s content, we will create a truly community-focused streaming paradigm. Our goal is to make viewership fun, interactive, community driven, and to remove as many prohibitive factors as possible for creators to create and profit from their content.”
In total, Moulene is asking the ApeCoin DAO to allocate $2,200,000 USD to the project. Check out his budget below:
The second proposal on the ballot this week is AIP-226 titled “ApeCoinIRL - Decentralized Events Network,” by BAYC member and ApeCoin DAO contributor SSP1111.
“ApeCoinIRL is bringing the power of local, in-person gatherings to the forefront of the ApeCoin Ecosystem," SSP wrote. “By establishing a Decentralized Events Network, we’re creating a seamless onboarding ramp for those entering Web3 and the ApeCoin ecosystem.”
To create this “decentralized events network,” SSP plans to work with ApeCoin DAO contributors from around the world.
In total, SSP is asking the DAO to allocate 570,619 $Ape or $2,396,000 USD to create and fund the ApeCoinIRL network that will distribute$Ape to Dao contributors to host in real life events. “85% of Grant goes to Local DAO Ambassadors for 200+ Local Events,” SSP wrote.
$Ape holders have until tomorrow night at 9 P.M. EST to vote on these two AIPs. $Ape holders can read the full proposals here: https://snapshot.org/#/apecoin.eth
