Keeping Tabs On The Lab #22
To the Bored,
Good evening and thanks for reading the 22nd edition of the Bored Ape Gazette’s Keeping Tabs on The Lab newsletter.
Things have been anything but boring around the Yugaverse recently when it comes to gaming.
In just the past week, the HV-MTL Mechs revealed, Otherside Voyagers got an update on the Legends of the Mara game, and Improbable held an impromptu metaverse event!
Along with major updates on Yuga Labs’ gaming front, the next week around the swamp will be insane as the ApeCoin community elects two Discourse Facilitators, 10KTF holds its last G-Tag recycling event, and Improbable caps off a busy week with a bored bash in the metaverse on Sunday!
With some much happening around the ecosystem, let's recap the recent gaming updates and then look ahead to what’s next!
To begin, last Tuesday 30,000 HV-MTL Mechs came through the rift and entered the swamp.
“They’ve made it through the rift,” the BAYC tweeted on May 16th along with a 54-second video. “HV-MTL Evo1’s are here.”
While Apes and HV-MTL holders were excited to meet their robots, not everyone around the swamp was happy to see these mysterious Mechs!
At this time, there is still a lot we do not know about the HV-MTYL collection, but we do know that they are dynamic devices that will upgrade and evolve based on holders' choices.
“Your HV is a unique, dynamic NFT that evolves based on your decisions, so don't fuck this up,” the BAYC previously explained on its HV-MTL website. “There are eight different HV-Types and countless different trait combinations. Each has its own skills, personality, and roles, but they're all designed to transform.”
Apes and Hv-MTL holders will not need to wait much longer to get more information on the Mechs and the role these robots will play in the larger storyline going forward. The BAYC’s MDvMM website says that the "Journey To EVO 2” is set to begin this June.
As the HV-MTL Mechs came through the rift, Yuga Labs gave Voyagers new information about the mechanics of the Legends of the Mara game and informed them that decisions will have to be made.
“The strategy behind Legends of the Mara starts with the decisions we make as collectors,” Yuga Labs’ Chief Gaming Officer, Spencer Tucker wrote on Yuga Labs’ blog last week. “The game embraces a variety of different play styles, each with their own strategic advantages. The decisions you make as a Voyager will not only guide your journey but will influence the experience of other players in the ecosystem.”
The first choice that Voyagers will have to make when the game begins this summer will be which Vessel type (Farmer, Hunter, or Enchanter) they would like to nest on their Otherdeed first.
This is a big decision because, only one Vessel can nest on an Otherdeed at a time and the Vessel type that Voyagers choose to nest will transform into their first Mara.
While Yuga Labs didn’t tell Voyagers the benefits of nesting an Enchanter Vessel last week, they did lay out the reasons a Voyager would want to nest either a Farmer or Hunter Vessel first.
“Why farm Sediment Fragments? Voyagers will have the opportunity to combine their Mara with Sediment Fragments and a Seasonal Catalyst to transform their Mara into a more powerful Kodamara,” Yuga Labs wrote. “A Kodamara’s look, trait rarity, and game function are all influenced by Voyager’s choices.”
After Yuga Labs explained why Voyagers would want to nest a farming Vessel first, the company then explained the benefits of nesting a hunter type Vessel.
“Why set your Mara to hunt? Otherside is under attack. Voyagers can deploy their Koda, Mara, and Kodamara to defend it from The Shattered, mysterious titans that awakened shortly after the Vessels descended. When a Shattered is defeated, it leaves behind a treasure. The more efficiently a Shattered is defeated, the more rare and exclusive the treasure.”
At this time there is still a lot we do not know about the Legends of The Mara Game. But it appears that Yuga Labs has ambitious long-term goals for the highly anticipated game.
“Season 1 of Otherside: Legends of the Mara will launch this summer. It’s just the beginning, and as we progress through Season 2 and beyond, the team plans to adapt and expand the game’s mechanics offerings,” Yuga Labs wrote last week.
Speaking of the Otherside, Yuga Labs’ partner Improbable, the company working with Yuga to make the Otherside a reality, held a metaverse get together with Arsenal Football star Alex Zinchenko on Sunday.
During the event, attendees explored an arena powered by M2 tech, watched some highlights from Zinchenko’s career, got to ask the football star a couple questions via ImprobableIo’s new open mic feature, and of course danced!
Following the event, Improbable’s CEO, Herman Narula took to Twitter and said that everyone users saw during last weekend’s event can be built without any technical insight thanks to the company’s technology.
“Everything you saw today you could create yourself with MML and world builder,” Narula tweeted. “There are no special skills required. MML will be open source and access to the technology will be through @MSquared_io.”
Following a jam-packed week of gaming updates, the Yuga Labs community has another eventful week ahead.
To start, ApeCoin DAO contributors have until tomorrow night at 9 P.M. EST to cast their coins in the Discourse Facilitator Election.
14 $Ape holders threw their hats in the ring and are running for this position. Take a look at the current results here:
Following this week’s vote, the top two vote getters from this election will join the DAO’s first Discourse Moderation team and they will be responsible for “overseeing the proposal process, moderating discussions, enforcing rules, and promoting positive community engagement based on DAO-approved guidelines,” according to the DAO.
Following Wednesday’s vote, the Yuga Labs community will have one last chance to burn a Genesis item from the 10KTF collection for a G-tag.
As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, G Tags will become 10KTF profile photos during the project’s season 2, according to the project.
Finally, this busy week around the swamp will end with a bang as Improbable hosts another Metaaverse get together this Sunday featuring a musical guest.
“We are planning another surprise for next Sunday. This one will be somewhat more technically complex and very musical… step by step…,” Narula tweeted.
The Bored Ape Gazette will be covering all these stories throughout the week and will keep you up to date on everything happening around the swamp.
Thank you so much for reading this week’s edition of Keeping Tabs On The Lab and be sure to follow the Bored Ape Gazette on Twitter for all things Yuga!
Sincerely,
