Keeping Tabs On The Lab #29
To the Bored,
Good evening and thanks for reading the 29th edition of the Bored Ape Gazetteās Keeping Tabs on the Lab newsletter!
To begin, let me just say that it was an absolute pleasure meeting so many of you in Miami over the āFuck Itā weekend! Going to IRL events reminds me how blessed I am to have joined this community back in May 2021 and established the Gazette a month later. It goes without saying, but it is an absolute pleasure to report on this community and I look forward to covering the Yugaverse for years to come!
With that sentimental thought out of the way, letās start this weekās newsletter by briefly recapping Yuga Labsā āFuck It Saturdayā event at Oasis Wynwood.
The vibes were immaculate, the food and drinks were delicious, and the decorations were insane. Everywhere I looked, it felt like something was brewing that immersed the crowdĀ in a mutated moment.
While the traplord himself, ASAP Ferg, was the eventās headliner, the biggest stories coming out of āFuck It Saturdayā were from the community itself.Ā
Notable MAYC member and Spacesā host ThreadGuy got the chance to go on stage and introduce ASAP Ferg to the community, Pudgy Penguinsā Chief Commercial Officer, Chef Goyardi, found himself at the center of a Mutant Mosh Pit, and BAYC member 305KidJet turned heads as he performed a headspin that has been memeād into Mutant Ape lore!
All in all, it was a great event, and I encourage everyone in the Yugaverse to attend a real-life meet up post haste! This community is truly insane.
While the āFuck Itā weekend dominated the news and timeline over the last week, the BAYC also made waves around the swamp when it announced the next iteration of the HV-MTL Forge will begin as the Rift opens on September 7th.
āListen up HVs, the graphic below contains what you need to know ahead of being able to enter the Rift on September 7th,ā the BAYC tweeted on August 24th. āAn updated version of the game guide with more details on how to play in the Rift will be shared ahead of launch.ā
The infographic referenced in the BAYCās tweet explained that HV-MTL Holders and their mechs should continue to ābuild up energyā and ābuild out tilesā until they see the Rift portal in their Forge. This extra energy will give players access into the Rift and additional lHV-MTL upgrades. HV-MTL Holders and their Mechs will want to make their way through the Rift so they can compete in the āraid boss battleā and earn $Ape rewards!
While we do not know what to will happen when HV Holders and their Mechs venture through the Rift next month, we do know that the HV-MTL Forgeās game meta will change from a āpet game and casual world builderā to a ācompetitive dungeon crawlerā that features some combat eventually.Ā
As Forgers prepare for their next HV-MTL adventure, Yuga Labs announced that the company would be setting sail from Opensea in search of friendlier ports earlier this month after the leading NFT marketplace announced that it would be moving towards optional creator royalty fees by February 29th, 2024.
Since Openseaās announcement, Yuga Labsā CEO, Daniel Alegre, issued a statement and said Yuga Labs would be leaving Opensea.
āYuga Labs will begin the process of sunsetting support for OpenSeaās Seaport for all upgradable contracts and any new collection, with the aim of this being complete in February 2024 in tandem with Openseaās approach,ā Alegre wrote. āFor as much as NFTs have been about users truly owning their digital assets, theyāve also been about empowering creators. Yuga believes in protecting creator royalties so creators are properly compensated for their work.ā
As Yuga Labs stands up for creator royalties, the ApeCoin DAO is standing up to empower 60 builders in the $Ape ecosystem via ThankApeās PropHouse competition this week.
228 $Ape builders submitted ideas across five different ThankApe buildersā contests this week and the ApeCoin community is currently in the middle of voting to fund 60 of them!
"Why we're doing this,ā ThankApe tweeted earlier this month. ā1. We believe in the power of #ApeCoinBuilders to imagine into and build the future of web3. 2. We want to recognize our builders for excellent work across categories! 3. We need passionate builders to help create a thriving ApeCoin DAO ecosystem!ā
Every ApeCoin holder is invited to vote in ThankApeās five PropHouse contest and select their favorite ideas. The window to cast your coins closes tomorrow night at 9 P.M. EST.
