Keeping Tabs On The Lab #33
To the Bored,
Good evening and thank you for reading the 33rd edition of the Bored Ape Gazette’s Keeping Tabs on The Lab newsletter.
Things are anything but boring across the Yugaverse right now as Bored Ape Yacht Club members prepare for ApeFest 2023, the club continues to tease more of the merchandise from its upcoming collaboration with A Bathing Ape, Yuga Labs’ CEO addressed the recent Yuga Labs restructuring while teasing the 'P.S. Also' clubhouse, and Yuga Labs' Co-Founder Gordon Goner returned to the swamp and gave the community an update on his health!
With so much happening around the ecosystem, let's ape into the news and keep tabs on Yuga Labs!
To begin, ApeFest is in 9 days and the Bored Ape Yacht Club community is getting ready for three nights of fun with their internet frens and vibes!
“We’re doing things a little differently this year, with lots of ways to catch up with old frens and make new ones," the BAYC previously wrote on its ApeFest website. "Less of a music festival, more of an epic, unhinged family reunion.”
Recently, the BAYC shared a list of side events that are taking place around Hong Kong between Wednesday November 1st and Monday November 6th.
These events range from late night parties to early morning runs and give community members the chance to catch up with old frens and make new ones as the BAYC intended.
Along with community led initiatives and get togethers around the city, the BAYC is set to host its first event on Friday November 3rd at PMQ from 9 A.M.- 5 P.M. During this event, BAYC members will be able to pick up their ApeFest Badges and check out the Member’s Boutique featuring all sorts of Made By Apes swag! Later that night of November 3rd, BAYC members will meet up at their assigned Happy Hour event (this ticket is in your Tokenproof App) from 7- 10 P.M. for a night of networking!
Following Friday’s happy hours, the BAYC will debut its BAYC X BAPE collection on Saturday, November 4th, at PMQ and reopen its Members boutique from 9 A.M.- 5 P.M..Then, later that night, BAYC members will meet at Kai Tak for this year’s main event.
While we do not know much about the main event, we do know that it will be an ‘immersive Ape Fest Experience’ full of surprises, photo ops, and shareable moments, according to Yuga Labs’ Digital and social media Director, Ian De Borja.
Following the BAYC’s main event on Day two, the club will host a Hangover Hangout at PMQ from 11 A.M. -1 P.M on Sunday. After that, Yuga Labs will host its Yacht Club Open House event that will feature speakers from across the Yugaverse like Yat Siu, Josh Ong, Garga, Daniel Alegre, among others!
As Apes plan their trips and choose which community get-togethers to attend, the BAYC has revealed two items from its highly anticipated collaboration line with BAPE!
While we do not know how big this collab collection will be, we do know that it's been in the works for a while and that it will be launching at ApeFest.
“The collection makes its debut at ApeFest on November 4, where Apes can purchase onsite, or online with token-gated access,” Garga explained in a recent blog post Then, it drops exclusively for BAPETAVERSE members online. Finally, in December the collection arrives at BAPE STORE® and BAPE.COM globally, where the public can access.”
Further, we know that the BAPE X BAYC shoe that the club shared on Twitter last week will be tough to get with half of the pairs being available exclusively to BAYC members while the other half will be for sale in BAPE stores later this year, according to Yuga Labs’ Social Lead, Ngbshpend.
As Apes get ready to receive their BAPE merchandise and hang out in Hong Kong next week, Yuga Labs' CEO, Daniel Alegre, addressed the community regarding Yuga Labs' recent restructuring, which resulted in many beloved employees leaving the company, and the 10KTF and Meebits teams joining the Otherside.
In summary, Alegre reiterated to the community that these moves were made to get back to BAYC-ics and focus on “1. Support our existing communities; 2. Focus on our Otherside execution; and 3. Leverage partnerships to ensure a seamless execution of our big bets.”
While Alegre’s main post was lengthy and serious, he followed it up with his own version of a ‘Fuck it. Mutants Saturday’ moment by tweeting ‘P.S., also clubhouse.’
Alegre’s clubhouse comment had many in the community feeling ‘early BAYC vibes’ that were followed up with a Yuga Labs Co-Founder, Gordon Goner’s first tweet in months.
In his post, Goner said that he will not be able to make it to ApeFest due to his congestive heart failure, but he is doing better now than he was earlier this year and he's feeling optimistic about the future. Further Goner said that he has returned to the company he co-founded recently in a limited role.
“I hope that my presence is felt again in some small way, he said. “I desperately want to get back to my creative work at Yuga, I left so much unfinished, but I unfortunately still have a ways to go.”
Thank you so much for reading this week’s edition of Keeping Tabs On The Lab and be sure to follow the Bored Ape Gazette on Twitter for all things Yuga!
Sincerely,
Kyle
