Keeping Tabs On The Lab #54
To the Bored,
Good evening and thank you for reading the 54th edition of the Bored Ape Gazette’s Keeping Tabs On The Lab Newsletter.
January 2025 is set to end with a bored bang as the ApeCoin DAO heads to the polls this week to vote on an Ape Improvement Proposal that will substantially change the DAO’s governance structure—bringing most of the treasury and all voting on-chain. Meanwhile, Yuga Labs is gearing up to welcome the world of Web3 and beyond to Otherside for this Friday’s potentially record-breaking Project Dragon gaming event!
All this is happening as builders across the Yugaverse continue to innovate—Bored N Hungry is opening its second South Korea location, Bored Trading Co. is debuting its Made By Apes Fanny Snack Pack bundles, and Faraway Gaming Studios’ Fchain is launching its $RIFT token, unlocking a whole new world for AI Agents!
With so much happening around the swamp, let’s ape into the news and keep tabs on Yuga Labs.
The ApeCoin DAO is heading to the polls this week to vote on AIP-582, titled “ApeChain, On-Chain – ApeCoin DAO Governance Revamp.” This proposal, submitted by the Ape Admin and co-authored by the DAO’s four Special Council Members—BoredApeG, Hazel, Mo, and Waabam—aims to bring sweeping governance changes to the DAO.
The AIP introduces several key changes, including: moving 75% of the ApeCoin DAO’s treasury on Chain, establishing a new 11 person Security Council, creating an Executive Director role to oversee ApeCoin and ApeChain growth, forming an Audit Committee made up of holders with 10 million+ $Ape, implementing a Data Availability Committee, and moving the AIP voting process on-chain requiring community support, temperature checks, KYC requirements, and contract negotiations before reaching a DAO-wide vote.
The revamped AIP process—modeled after Arbitrum DAO’s governance style—will emphasize delegation. Authors must gather 250,000 $APE votes for a temperature check to initiate the process and 500,000 $APE votes to call for a DAO-wide vote.
“This process puts a greater emphasis on participating in delegations and on getting support for your idea before it gets submitted to a vote to the entire DAO,” Waabam told the Gazette back in November 2024” So any community member can still suggest ideas for proposals on discourse - they just need to get a delegation to support it in order to ultimately send it to a temperature check.”
The voting window is now open, and $APE holders have until Wednesday at 9 P.M. EST to cast their coins!
As $APE holders vote , everyone is preparing for this month’s Otherside Project Dragon, which could be one for the record books!
On Friday, Apes, Meebs, Moonbirds, Voyagers, Web3 enthusiasts, and gamers galore are all invited to ape into Otherside, compete in this month’s episode of Project Dragon, and help Yuga Labs break the world record for the most players in an online first-person shooter battle—which currently stands at 1,530 players!
“Put January 31, 9pm ET into your calendar now,” BAYC Social Lead BaronVonHustle tweeted yesterday. “You don't need an NFT to join so make sure to show up and attempt to break the world record together.”
Again, this event is open to everyone, so invite your Web3 and normie frens, and let’s break this record together!
As Yuga Labs and the DAO kick off 2025 with big governance and gaming moves, Made By Apes builders and the broader $APE ecosystem are working hard to make this year insane.
Last Sunday, Bored N Hungry opened its second permanent South Korea location—complete with an Ape mural outside and exclusive menu items crafted by a Netflix chef!
“We are happy to share that our second restaurant in Seoul, Korea is now finally open! Mapo-Daero, Sinsu-dong, Seoul This features an ape mural from Jappy Agoncillo, and a collab menu with @netflix Culinary Class Wars Semi-Finalist, Chef Jang Ho-Jun."
This second location is part of Bored N Hungry’s broader Asia expansion strategy. Over the next year, they plan to expand into Malaysia and host their first-ever pop-up in China!
Meanwhile, Bored Trading Co. just launched its first-ever snack fanny pack bundle, filled with sweet and savory treats from Made By Apes brands.
These bundles are $26.69 Cents and include a Frens Chocolate bar, two Bored Snax Cookies, Bored Bagel Chips, JC Snacks roasted peanuts, and Bored Munchie Mix—all packed into an unofficial ApeChain fanny pack!

And finally, Faraway Gaming Studios is set to launch Rift, a new platform described as a “Shopify App Store for AI Agents,” with a $RIFT TGE and first-wave airdrop tomorrow for HV-MTL holders who have connected their wallets to Faraway and created a Solana-embedded wallet.
While full details on Rift remain under wraps, we do know that 54.8% of the $RIFT token will eventually be distributed to the community. HV-MTL holders will receive 10% of the token at TGE tomorrow, with another 10% unlocked through activations over the next 12 months, according to Faraway.
