Keeping Tabs On The Lab #6
To the Bored,
Good evening and thanks for reading the sixth edition of the Bored Ape Gazetteās, āKeeping Tabs On The Lab.ā The last two weeks have been anything but boring around the Yuga Labs ecosystem with several seven figure sales, an update on the ApeCoin Marketplace, the creation of a BAYC Community Council, and an SEC investigation, among other things.
With so much to keep up with around the swamp, letās dive right in.Ā
As the world faces economic uncertainty, the Yugaverse recently saw several seven figuresā USD sales.
Notable CryptoPunk collector Seedphrase made headlines on September 28th as he sold CryptoPunk #2429 for 3300 Eth or $4,439,000.Ā
CryptoPunk #2429 is a one attribute Ape type punk with a hoodie. Based on these traits, CryptoPunk #2429 is the 38th most Punk CryptoPunk, according to Rarity Tools.
A few days later, Seedphrase made waves again as the notable collector sold CryptoPunk #5944 for 980 Eth or $1,285,000 USD.Ā
CryptoPunk #5944 is a one attribute zombie type punk with a mohawk. Based on these traits, CryptoPunk #5944 is the 163rd most Punk CryptoPunk, according to Rarity Tools.
While SeedPhrase made these big sales, lifestyle drink company Neuro joined the swamp after the company purchased a trippy fur primate for 777 Eth or $1,018,000 USD.
As major sales took place on various marketplaces, the ApeCoin DAOās official marketplace, Snag solutions, informed the community that Solidity.io will be auditing its code and that the company plans to launch its $Ape marketplace in November.Ā
As Snag Solutions works to build the ApeCoin DAOās marketplace, the $Ape community is currently voting on two new Ape Improvement Proposals.
The first AIP on the ballot this week is AIP-94 titled, āA Pilot Episode For Otherside Animated Anthology,ā by ApeCoin DAO Contributor and BAYC member Swarm.
āImagine a āLove, Death & Robotsā like anthology, but each episode happens on a random plot of land from the Otherside world,ā Swarm wrote in their proposal. āEach plot of land is like a small parallel universe with its own environment and rules based on its traits. Main characters are from the APE ecosystem. Each season or episode has a different style and genre. For the pilot I am thinking about a horror style with a BAYC character as a charismatic antagonist.ā
To create this show, Swarm is asking the DAO for $100,000 USD. āIn order to spread awareness about the Ape ecosystem, we must create products aimed at mass consumption,ā they wrote.
The second AIP on the ballot this week is AIP-106 titled, āPOAP Voting Rewards,ā by ApeCoin DAO contributor 0xSword.Ā
āThis proposal directs Ape Foundation to add POAP NFT rewards for voters,ā 0xSword wrote. āThese are distributed through the Snapshot voting system for users to keep & share on social media channels. This proposal also creates a 30-day contest to select 4 designs and reward its creators with 100 $APE each.ā
Further in his proposal, 0xSword explained that he believes that creating POAP rewards will lead to higher voter turnout going forward.
āRewarding voters with POAPs will create awareness on social media towards active proposals and encourage conversation around taking part in the voting process,ā 0xSword wrote.
To make AIP-106 a reality, 0xSword is asking the DAO for 400 ApeCoin that will go towards paying the four POAP artists for their designs.Ā
As the $Ape community votes on these AIPs, Yuga Labs announced the creation of a BAYC Community Council.
āApes, we wouldnāt be where we are today without our incredible community,ā the BAYC tweeted on October 5th. āWeāre excited to announce the first BAYC community council made up of 7 long standing proactive community members to work alongside us moving forward. To help the community grow and thrive, weāve assembled Apes with a proven track record of proactively and positively contributing to the club since the start. This council was formed with the intention of representing the club at large and providing an avenue for new perspectives.ā
The seven Bored Apes that make up the first BAYC Community Council are Josh Ong, SeraStargirl, Laura Rod, 0xEthan, 0xWave, Negi, and Peter Fang.
As the BAYC announced the first of its kind BAYC Community Council, the club also worked to fulfill one of its Roadmap 2.0 objectives.Ā
On October 8th, Bored Apes ventured into the Sandbox Metaverse and got their first look at the BAYC Miami 2035 experience.Ā
āWeāre happy to share a small glimpse into the BAYC Sandbox experience that will be fully available to explore in later seasons of the Sandbox,ā the BAYC tweeted on October 8th. āWe want to thank the team at @CryptoCitiesDev for their amazing efforts on creating this experience.ā
While there was a lot that happened within the Yugaverse over the past two weeks, it is also important to note whatās happening outside the swamp. On Tuesday Bloomberg News reported that the SEC was investigating Yuga Labs over securities violations.Ā
āItās well-known that policymakers and regulators have sought to learn more about the novel world of Web3. We hope to partner with the rest of the industry and regulators to define and shape the burgeoning ecosystem,ā Yuga Labs told Bloomberg in a statement. āAs a leader in the space, Yuga is committed to fully cooperating with any inquiries along the way.ā
The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to monitor the SECās investigation and will let you know when new information is made available.Ā
Thank you so much for reading this weekās edition ofĀ āKeeping Tabs On The Lab,āĀ and stay tuned for next weekās newsletter, āThe ApeCoin DAO-N LOW,ā where the Gazette will take a closer look at the ApeCoin DAO.Ā
Sincerely,
Kyle
