To the Bored,
This is the Gazette’s first ever “The ApeCoin DAO-N LOW” newsletter and I’d like to start by thanking each of you for your support; it means a lot. The purpose of “The ApeCoin DAO-N LOW” biweekly newsletter is to keep the $Ape community informed on all things happening at the ApeCoin DAO and with $Ape Coin.
To begin, Ape Improvement Proposal-64 is on the ballot this week. AIP-64 titled, “APE Coin Festival - Bringing NFT Communities Together,” was submitted by Bored Ape Yacht Club member HopiumLabs.
The purpose of this proposal is to determine whether the community believes that the idea of an ApeCoin conference is feasible and a good decision for the DAO. This proposal is NOT pitching or planning an event, according to the AIP.
“This AIP is proposing to do the legwork to secure letters of interest from various NFT Communities, Brands, Sponsors, Venues and Event Cos BEFORE drafting a separate proposal for putting together a DAO-Owned and Managed Conference & Festival - aka Web3 Village,” HopiumLabs wrote.
If passed, HopiumLabs told the Gazette that the community would begin exploring different ways to make an $APE festival a reality.
“If AIP-64 passes then we take about 30-45 days to gauge interest and aggregate data done through a landing page and Airtable. Once populated, we'd create a presentation or visuals to help the community envision the need or the opportunity for either a flagship event, a series of smaller local events, a presence at other events, or an Events Support Department (that last one came to me recently). If the appetite is real, we'd start again with another proposal or two based on the data from AIP-64. So hopefully, any monies we spend on event ideas are not wasted on pure speculation but have a strategic intentionality behind them.”
At the time of this newsletter’s publication, nearly 300,000 $Ape coin votes have been cast with 98.75% of voters in favor of AIP-64. The window to vote for AIP-64 closes Wednesday August 10th at 9:00 P.M. EST. Make sure to cast your vote.
As the $Ape community votes on AIP-64, there are currently 12 AIPs that are in the “AIP Drafts” leg of the proposal process. This means that the authors of these proposals are currently fielding questions from the ApeCoin DAO. Once those authors have answered the DAO’s questions, and the DAO has reviewed their replies, these draft AIPs will go up for a community vote.
Here’s a list of the AIP Drafts that have had new activity in the last week:
AIP-87: NFT + IP Marketplace / Yuga Labs + Otherside Partner NFT Collections - Ecosystem Fund Allocation
AIP-84: Wagmi Merch - A platform for exclusive secondary NFT merch & collectibles commerce
AIP-78: Ape Worlds - Create Ape-themed games on the blockchain, no code required
AIP-72: High Security for Discord - Ecosystem Fund Allocation
AIP-82: Building APE DAO medical center
AIP-69: Fund the creation of an IP resource for BAYC/MAYC holders & community at large - Ecosystem Fund Allocation
The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow these Draft AIP’s and will let you know more about them once they are set for a community vote.
As the ApeCoin DAO waits to see what happens with the current Draft AIPs, ApeCoin DAO Board Member Maaria Bajwa submitted an AIP idea that aims to improve the ApeCoin DAO’s voting delegation experience.
“The motivation for this proposal is to improve the UX for delegating ApeCoin, as well as provide a better process for users to identify delegates aligned with their interests,” Bajwa wrote. “While anyone will be welcome to self-delegate and vote independently, we know not all $APE holders can commit to take an active role in the APE ecosystem. An improved delegation system will allow the individuals and groups who want to take an active role in APE governance to have their voices heard.”
The Gazette will continue to follow this idea and will let you know more about how you can either become a delegate or how you can delegate your votes to another user as the idea proceeds through the AIP process.
Outside of the DAO, $Ape has had a busy two weeks. On August 2nd, Italian high-end luxury fashion house, Gucci, announced that it would begin accepting $Ape as a payment option.
“Now accepting @ApeCoin payments via @BitPay,” Gucci tweeted. “Select Gucci boutiques in the USA expand the range of cryptocurrencies available for in-store purchases, yet another step in the House's exploration of Web3.”
Gucci wasn’t the only high-end brand to announce that it has started to accept $Ape. Luxury watch brand TAG Heuer has also announced that it would begin accepting the coin as a payment option.
The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow the ApeCoin DAO and will keep you posted on all things $Ape.
Sincerely,
Kyle
